Alternative to drag and drop on mobile devices

1. Nikola,

Hello,
currently, in scenarios where on Windows you move something with Shift+Up and Down arrows, such as in team selection or card sorting, on the Web client when using a touch screen, it is necessary to use the drag and drop feature, double tapping and holding what you want to move, finding the spot, then lifting your finger.
This is in my opinion quite well designed, but even so, it can still be quite difficult, both because the game zone is in my view quite small for many blind people to do this successfully and not be confused by many other elements on the screen, but also because I think it doesn't work with certain screen readers and browsers (mostly observed on Android).

Thus, I wonder would it be possible to add an alternative. I imagine it as follows:
If we have a menu supporting this kind of movement, when you long press any item, add two additional context menu options, "Move up" and "Move down". These items would move the target only one place up or down in the list.
It's still not the fastest way, it can take quite some time to set things right, but I think it's better than nothing.
Ideally these would be TalkBack/VoiceOver custom actions, but unfortunately we don't have that possibility on the Web...

This scenario works when selecting teams, but we do have one problem. In Uno, for example, you can sort your cards by moving them up or down, however, long pressing on a card opens a different context menu.
Regardless of the fact I think that menu isn't even necessary, ideally, if possible, these new "Move up" and "Move down" options should be appended to any other existing context menu options, if there is already a menu available.

Thanks for considering the idea.

2. Aminiel,

Hello,

I have added move up / move down options in the team selection menu, in all games where you can play in teams. Let's see and tell me if you find it useful like that.

I don't think it's useful to put these options everywhere where you can reorder cards or other items. Usefulness is to be checked case by case.

For example, in Uno or 1000 miles, I don't think it's very useful to add the move up/down options in the existing context menus. The manipulation is too complicated for what it brings to you there, I think.

IN Uno, for example, you can already sort your cards by color or by number; in many trick taking games it's already done automatically; these default orders are sufficient for the vaste majority.

IN 1000 miles, you have only 6 cards, so it isn't very very useful, 6 cards isn't that much to require an ordering.

3. Nikola,

Hello,
thank you very much, it seems to work quite well.

About card sorting, I agree with you, personally I don't use this feature in these games even on Windows, I mentioned it just for the sake of completeness and making it available in case someone else does have a use case for it, but let's see if it is requested. Generally I prefer to make each keyboard feature available via the menus too, it's a bit useful on Windows sometimes as well for people who prefer not to remember a lot of shortcuts, it is enough to know only how to open the context menu.

In 1000 miles, the main use of sorting cards is putting immunity cards at the top and keeping them there so you can quickly access them for a dirty trick later in the game, but it indeed isn't as relevant on mobile. In Uno, number or color sorting is a lot more useful.

By the way, this is a separate report, but I've been putting it off for a while...
Do you know why in the new options menu, long pressing checkboxes doesn't work to hear option descriptions? Can checkboxes even take a long click?
I ask that second question because it works without any problems on other options which are standard buttons, such as score/time limits.
